Financial assistance for Victims of the Earthquake Disaster in Herat Province, Afghanistan.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

On October 7, 2023, several strong earthquakes and aftershocks shook the western part of Afghanistan. In the Herat Province and its surroundings, numerous houses in several villages were destroyed. The number of casualties exceeds 2500 dead and more than 2000 injured people, including children, women, and elderly individuals. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

Those whose houses were destroyed by the earthquakes are to receive financial assistance of 100,000 Afghani per house. Families who lost members due to the earthquakes are entitled to payments of 70,000 Afghani per deceased. Individuals severely injured by the earthquakes are to be compensated with 15,000 Afghani per person.

The mentioned financial aids are intended to be paid from the Afghan state budget.

It would be highly beneficial if people whose houses were destroyed by earthquakes and floods could construct their new houses to be earthquake-resistant and stable, enabling them to withstand future earthquakes and floods.
