Alarm: We Call on the International Community to Pay Attention!

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

For over 50 years, more than 100,000 innocent people, mainly Baloch and Pashtuns, have been forcibly disappeared in Balochistan and Pashtunkhwa. Human rights activists and organizations accuse the Pakistani military and intelligence services of abducting, torturing, and killing individuals without legal proceedings.

Below is a summary of some recent media reports:

Report by VOA-Deewa, January 2, 2025:
The organization "Defence of Human Rights", which advocates for the rights and search for forcibly disappeared persons in Pakistan, reported in its annual report that the wave of forced disappearances in Pakistan continued into 2024.

Report by VOA-Deewa, January 9, 2025:
The Chairman of the "Voice for Baloch Missing Persons" organization, Mr. Mama Qadeer Baloch, stated that in 2024, 3,336 people were reported as forcibly disappeared in Balochistan, and nearly 60 mutilated bodies were found.

Report by VOA-Deewa, January 19, 2025:
On January 18, 2025, the Pakistani police arrested 25 protesting Baloch people, including 13 women, who were members of the human rights movement Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC). The Pakistani Human Rights Commission (HRCP) demanded their immediate release.
Activists of the BYC accused the police of mistreating Baloch demonstrators in Lyari and falsely imprisoning them. Ms. Samdin Baloch, a member of BYC, explained that their organization had organized a meeting on January 18, 2025, in Karachi, Lyari District, but they were attacked by the police before the meeting could begin. She said, "Our men were arrested and beaten, the women were mistreated, their hair was pulled, their headscarves were torn off, and they were thrown to the ground. The women were violently dragged into police vehicles and held in various police stations." Ms. Samdin Baloch further explained that the 13 female activists were released after five hours due to public pressure, while the men remained in police custody. She reported that she was also subjected to violence and was tortured for five hours.

Report by VOA-Deewa, February 13, 2025:
The "Baloch Yakjehti Committee BYC" reported that the wave of forced disappearances continued in January 2025 in Balochistan. Ms. Samdin Baloch, a member of BYC, stated on February 12, 2025, at a press conference in the Karachi Press Club, that 88 cases of forced disappearances from various regions of Balochistan were reported to the human rights department of the committee in January 2025.
Ms. Samdin Baloch further stated that forced disappearances in Balochistan are increasing, and the policy of genocide has alarmingly gained intensity. It has been reported that targeted killings are being carried out by unknown perpetrators, but in reality, these are militias supported by the state.

Report from BBC Pashto, March 23, 2025:
Human rights activists claim that thousands of Baloch people have disappeared at the hands of Pakistani security forces over the past two decades. The claim is that these individuals were arrested, abducted, tortured, and killed during military operations against the ongoing Baloch independence movement without any legal proceedings.

Reports from BBC Pashto, March 22-24, 2025:
The human rights movement Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) declared that a peaceful protest took place on Saryab Road in Quetta in front of the Balochistan University against the arrests of prominent BYC members such as Bepgar Baloch, Dr. Haml, Dr. Elias, Said Baloch, and other women. Police and other state authorities used tear gas, water cannons, and shot at the protesters, resulting in the deaths of three young Baloch men and injuring dozens.
Simultaneously, the relatives of the arrested Baloch, mostly women, also protested on Qamberani Road in Quetta.
Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, Chairwoman of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), had announced a nationwide protest in Balochistan for March 22, 2025.
According to reports, the police and other authorities attacked the protesters on March 22, 2025, and arrested Dr. Mah Rang Baloch along with several of her companions.

Mahrang was arrested on Saturday morning, a few weeks after her interview with BBC. After that, she led a protest in Quetta, following the discovery of 13 unidentified bodies secretly buried in the city. There are concerns that these may be the bodies of forcibly disappeared individuals. The police also took the three bodies of the killed individuals with them.
According to BBC reports, Dr. Mah Rang Baloch was listed as one of the "100 Women of the Year 2024" and is, according to her own statements, nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

Report from BBC Pashto, March 24, 2025:
Amnesty International condemned the arrest of Dr. Mah Rang Baloch and called for her immediate release. In a statement, Amnesty International said that Pakistani authorities should immediately release Dr. Mah Rang Baloch and all other individuals who "exercise their right to peaceful assembly." The statement also noted: "More than 38 hours after her illegal arrest, Dr. Mah Rang Baloch has still not been allowed to contact her lawyer or her family."

We have repeatedly appealed to the United Nations and the international community, drawing attention to the alarming phenomenon of enforced disappearances in Balochistan and Pashtunkhwa. Unfortunately, no concrete measures have been taken so far to address this injustice. We now strongly urge the international community to take decisive action, hold Pakistan accountable for its numerous atrocities, impose sanctions, and stop any financial and military support to Pakistan.
